December 1, 2017 - Congrats on Award-Winning Poster!
Maggie Pearce, a senior OSUTeach major in Biological Science, received first place in a poster presentation at the National Association of Biology Teachers conference in St. Louis in November. Maggie's poster was titled "Transgenerational Responses of Freshwater Snails to Fish Predators", which reflected her research with Dr. Barney Luttbeg in the Department of Integrative Biology. This research was a component of a class taught by Dr. Julie Angle in the College of Education, Health, and Aviation, where students conduct research with a science mentor and translate the research into an inquiry-based lesson for a science classroom. Congrats on your hard work and accomplishment, Maggie!
October 17th, 2017 - OSUTeach Outreach and Recruitment Events
OSUTeach Ambassadors have been busy this semester! The students attended the EPSCoR Women in Science Conference on October 17th, where they launched straw rockets with 8th grade students to promote STEM education. OSUTeach also handed out caramel apple suckers before Homecoming on Friday, October 13th to raise program awareness to students on OSU campus. The Ambassadors attend several OSU hosted recruitment events throughout the semester. A full list of events can be found HERE.
October 10th, 2017 - OSUTeach Fall Lunch Event
This year's Fall Lunch Event was a chilly day outside, where OSUTeach students recieved a free chili lunch, hot apple cider, and t-shirts! Students and faculty gathered together to decorate pumpkins and chat about classes and teaching.
Septmber 23rd, 2017 - EHA Tailgate and Board of Governors
The OSUTeach Club volunteered their time to help set up the EHA tailgate on September 23rd. The Club members had the opportunity to chat with education alumni and current faculty about education and their progress in the OSUTeach program. On the same day, OSUTeach students were invited to attend the OSU Board of Governors Luncheon. The students demonstrated a rocket activity used to explain the laws of physics and raise awareness for the program. A big thanks to Denise Unruh and the OSU Foundation for including OSUTeach!
September 15th, 2017 - Noyce and OSUTeach Internship Showcase
Over the summer, Noyce and OSUTeach provided a variety of paid internship opportunities in Tulsa, Stillwater, and Oklahoma City. Participating students gained educational experience in the fields of mathematics and science. The interns provided highlights of their experiences during a poster session and reception.
September 11th, 2017 - OSUTeach Club Meeting
The first OSUTeach Club meeting was held on September 11th. The new officers introduced themselves and presented ideas for fundraising and club activities for the next year. Student played games and ate dinner together to get to know one another at this first meetings. Six OSUTeach Club members volunteered to help with the annual CEHA Tailgate event on Saturday, September 23rd. The purpose of the OSUTeach Club is to provide support for secondary mathematics and science teachers and provide opportunities for personal and professional growth for each member. August 29th, 2017 - OSUTeach Ice Cream Social
The OSUTeach workroom is a space designated for OSUTeach students for studying and to practice teaching. At the beginning of the school semester, OSUTeach hosted an ice cream social for current and prospective OSUTeach students as a 'welcome-back' event. Student get to know each other and catch up with friends from their summer break. OSUTeach faculty stopped by to meet the new students and provided students the opportunity to get to know their professors.
June 1st, 2017 - OSUTeach Students Receive First Place Poster Presentation at the UTeach Institute Conference
OSUTeach students Brittni Foster and Danielle Cain created a poster discussing their reasearch projects from their Research Methods in Mathematics course they completed with Dr. Ed Richmond. Their poster described the Sage Math Cloud computer programming software, which can be used for writing mathematcial equations, creating graphs, and writing code to solve equations of large magnitude. Their poster visually displayed this unique approach to mathematics research and was awarded first place at the annual UTeach Institute conference in May. Congratulations to Brittni and Danielle, and a big thank you to Dr. Ed Richmond for his expertise and instruction throughout the course.
May 15th, 2017 - ACS-HACH Scholarships Announced
The American Chemical Society (ACS)-Hach Undergraduate Scholarship is awarded to two academcally successful chemistry students who intend to pursue teaching as their future career. This scholarship is chosen by faculty from the Chemistry Department and is awarded on a yearly basis. The two recipients are Nichole Jones and Emilee Phillips. Congratulations to you both!
May 1st - 5th, 2017 - Extended Office Hours in OSUTeach Workroom
Students are encouraged to study for their finals during the week of May 1st - 5th in the OSUTeach workroom. This space, provided specifically to accomodate OSUTeach student needs, is a quiet spot where students can work individually or in small groups to study for their finals. Come grab a snack and get your study on!
April 13th, 2017 - OSUTeach Student Recognition Reception
The Student Recognition Reception recognized the achievements of our OSUTeach students. Students who received an OSUTeach Student Scholarship for 2017-2018 were presented with a certificate of scholarship by the Dean of Arts and Sciences, Bret Danilowicz. The 2016-2017 OSUTeach Ambassadors were presented with a certificate of achievement by the Dean of Education, John Romans for their work for the OSUTeach program over the past year. A list of additional achievements of our OSUTeach students can be found HERE. Congratulations to all of our students on their achievements!
April 12th and 18th, 2017 - OSUTeach Awareness on the Lawn
OSUTeach will be visiting STEM classrooms from April 10th - 21st to spread the word about OSUTeach to STEM majors. During these weeks, OSUTeach will boost its campus-wide recognitions by holding two awareness events. OSUTeach students will be on the International Mall on April 12th from 10 am - 2 pm, and on the Life Sciences East Lawn on April 18th (weather permitting). Our students will be handing out caramel apple suckers and bringing attention to the OSUTeach program. All OSUTeach students are encouraged to stop by, and faculty and staff are also welcome!
April 13th, 2017 - OSUTeach Tie Dye Party
OSUTeach is having a t-shirt tie dye event on April 13th on the Willard Lawn (weather permitting). OSUTeach students will be able to tie dye their own t-shirts, which they are encouraged to wear on campus for OSUTeach program promotion and support. Our OSUTeach students can participate in this event to get to know each other and have fun together!
April 4th, 2017 - Cookies and Conversations with the Co-Directors
The OSUTeach Co-Directors, Dr. Kristen Baum adnd Dr. Steve Marks, will be in the OSUTeach office on April 4th from 1:00 - 2:30 pm. Students are welcome to stop by and share their experiences with the Co-Directors, while enjoying some delicious cookies and desserts. OSUTeach students are welcome to come meet other OSUTeach students and get to know the OSUTeach Co-Directors.
February 28, 2017 - Introducing T-Shirt Tuesdays
The OSUTeach t-shirts are great advertisements for our program (as seen through our recruitment survey)!! To show support for each other, the program, and to recruit more OSUTeach students, we are starting OSUTeach T-Shirt Tuesday! To kick off our first T-Shirt Tuesday, OSUTeach provided cookies, sweets, and treats in 114 LSE for anyone wearing an OSUTeach item. Continue to show your support for OSUTeach by wearing an OSUTeach item every Tuesday. We want the whole campus to know who we are! Also, take a picture of you (or a group of you) in your shirt and #osuteach on Twitter to show more support for the program.
January 19, 2017 - OSUTeach Meet and Greet
OSUTeach students met up in the OSUTeach workroom in 114 Life Sciences East to socialize after the long break. Students currently enrolled in SMED 1011 also joined the event to meet other students and the instructors of the SMED 1011 course, Ms. Amy Olson and Mr. John Weaver. OSUTeach hosts events like this throughout the semester. Stay updated through social media and student email updates.
January 18, 2017 - SMED 1011 Students Make OSUTeach Advertisements
Kyle and Stephanie created this video as their final project in SMED 1011. The video contains three OSUTeach advertisements they shared with us for our enjoyment. Watch the video below to see these talented students in action.
